On this day in 1980: I’ve always avoided picking a most memorable major championship victory, but to win the 1980 @pgachampionship for a 5th and final time, and be forever linked with a legend like Walter Hagen, adds yet another special element to the memories. Of course, having family with me always underlines any special moment! The PGA Championship was as significant to my career as any major. First of all, the PGA Championship is the one major open only to professionals, so each year I knew I was playing for the championship of the association to which I belong—the PGA of America (@pga). That provides a lot of motivation going in and a great deal of satisfaction after the tournament. The PGA Championship annually boasts one of the most competitive fields in all of golf, and the venues the PGA is typically played on—such as Oak Hill in ’80—are some of the country’s finest and more challenging. —Jack
