On this day five years ago I hit the last HR of my career. At the time, I was confident that I would reach the 700 mark. I never thought that would have been the last time I circled the bases with one swing.

Funny how quickly things change. Don’t ever take anything for granted. Stay focused. Stay humbled, through success and adversity.

Yes, I did have a chance to go elsewhere and but as I told my girls and family & friends, closing my career as a Yankee with 696 is more valuable to me than hitting No. 700 in any other uniform.

And hey, at least my last homer was “An A-bomb from A-Rod” as my good friend and legendary broadcaster John Sterling always said.
