On 10/26/20 Lizzie Armanto took one of the heaviest slams in skateboarding history. It was basically a worst-case scenario fall to the bottom of what we loosely refer to as a “Mega Ramp” gap, flying 30 feet across straight into a wall and then nearly 20 feet down to the ground. We were shooting for our “War Rig” project at the time and it brought everything to a screeching halt. She has been recovering quietly ever since, and just recently started skating again. Her husband and most of the Birdhouse team were there to witness the trauma, and help as best they could in the chaotic aftermath. It was horrifying. We (the bystanders) have kept it all confidential because this was Lizzie’s story to tell if/when she was ready, so I am thankful she chose to sit down with Jason Ellis and me on our new podcast @hawkvswolf to finally tell it. It is a gripping account of trauma, uncertainty, patience, resilience, and unimaginable strength. She is the gnarliest, and we are lucky to have her as an inspiration to us all. Show drops May 24.
