In 2015, I reattempted the triple non-stop crossing of the English Channel for the 3rd time in 5 years.

No-one had been able to achieve this in 25 years. To put this into perspective, 4,000 people have climbed Everest.

Lap #1 ???????? ➡️ ????????

On August 8th, I got into the water at England and started. As I was approaching France on Lap #1, I was already extremely exhausted by being thrown around in the washing machine in French in-land waters for hours on end. The washing machine was worse than average on that day.

I said to my then-husband ‘today is not the right day for a triple crossing’. He told me to keep going, the conditions would improve later. I tumbled turned finishing the crossing in a very slow time for me of 11hrs 34min. I didn’t really tumble turn, I cleared the water-line and got straight back in, as per the rules. With no energy I headed back to England…

Lap #2 ???????? ➡️ ????????

Upon my return to England the pitch of night cloaked me, my support boat, the tankers, the cargo ships, the ferries and the whole English Channel.

I started to get really cold after midnight near the end of lap #2… I turned again after reaching England – 22hrs 42min had now elapsed. I cleared the water line again, and headed back to France.

Lap #3 ???????? ➡️ ????????

The cold was horrific, every cell, every fibre of my being shouted at me to get out of the water. My survival mechanism was kicking into overdrive.

The cold was so ingrained inside of me I believed I could feel it deep in my bones. That wasn’t true, the cold was so bad it was lowering my internal core temperature…

The temperature of my internal organs were dropping to a dangerously low point… my body knew it was dying. It had been here before. That’s why it was shouting at me to get out.

The only way to successfully finish this triple crossing was to override my body’s natural survival mechanism to live…
