I’d like to thank the @PGA of America, @RyderCupTeamEurope and Aon for creating the Nicklaus-Jacklin Award, and for recognizing players from both teams who embody the spirit and goodwill that is at the foundation of the Ryder Cup. I’m sure Tony would agree that we’re honored to have our names associated with this award.

As chosen by the Selection Committee, the inaugural recipients, @DJohnsonPGA for the United States and @TheSergioGarcia for Europe, are very worthy! I offer sincere congratulations to both. There were a number of players deserving of consideration—from Jordan Spieth, who handled himself extremely well with both the gallery and his opponents, and tried to be as fair as he could all the time; to Collin Morikawa, who was gracious and very humble right to the end of the matches. And for the Europeans, Jon Rahm played fantastic golf, and even in defeat today, handled himself very well. But it is pretty hard not to pick Dustin Johnson. Although the intent of the award is to transcend how someone performed, Dustin finished a remarkable 5-0, but at the same time, he handled himself with grace and class over the three days. Sergio was terrific throughout the matches. He was very gracious, very light, and always enthusiastic. He was the spirit of the European team, and did a wonderful job!
