If you’re anywhere close to my age (+/- 10 yrs), you probably remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you first heard Nirvana’s masterpiece known as Nevermind. It was exquisite, raw, emotive and revolutionary. I was lucky enough to see them perform live less than a month after the album release – October 20, 1991 in Houston to be exact – and the energy in the venue was unbridled. We could sense that we were part of something special; it was by far the best place you could have chosen to be at that exact time, and I managed to barge my way through the pit in order to get close to the stage. It was a dangerously magical experience.
In celebration of Nevermind’s 30th anniversary, I was invited to [once again] test my singing limits with punk legends for a @mikeyandhisuke cover of ‘In Bloom.” We couldn’t possibly match the power of Kurt’s vocal energy but we hope we honored him with our attempts. Thank you Kurt, Dave and Krist (et al) for creating a sound that changed the landscape of music. Thirty years on and it still feels like a tender age in bloom. Link in bio.
