The boat captain came out and said to me if I could lift my pace I could be at the finish ? (French shore ??) in under an hour.
He also mentioned the tide was turning soon. This means that if I didn’t get to shore in under an hour the strong tide would be pushing me parallel to France and I would have to fight ? to cross the tide as well as to swim forward ?.
I was already EXHAUSTED from pushing hard for the last 9hrs to get ahead of my fellow swimmer who was parallel or just behind me all day.
I was even more exhausted as I had only allocated (from my pacing over the swim) enough energy for a 10.30 or 11hr swim and I was already at 11hr mark. ?
I had a choice, incur more pain now to minimise total swim time and total time in pain. Or, keep holding a strong pace at the mercy of the tides and prolong this ordeal.
I lent into discomfort, I lent into pain and I charged into France. ?
I am not superhuman.
What I do from a physical and mental perspective is 100% trainable. I was trained to do this, I have trained others to do this in the English Channel and I can train ? you too.
