〰️〰️〰️ The sea conditions during the first couple of hours of my 41st Channel crossing weren’t too bad with a little lumpiness 〰️〰️〰️
??? ?‍♀️ ???

I caught all the boats ahead within an hour or so of starting… and then my crew ? told me that there was a swimmer who was keeping up with me and was parallel to me. The swimmer had started about 5min behind me too.

This caught me by surprise ? I decided that I didn’t want to be beaten across the channel on that day so I pushed harder and harder. ?➡️?➡️?I turned on ‘Serious Chloë Mode’. ?‍♀️

When swimming long distances swimmers need to be able to pace themselves ?. This is a skill which takes time to develop and also a lot of concentration during training.

It’s a skill best developed during interval training, with a clock, a coach and an attitude of wanting to get to know oneself, as an athlete, better. ⏱

I figured I could keep up this ?pace for a 10:30 – 11:00hr swim. I didnt budget ? my energy expenditure for what ended up happening…
