The Ryder Cup is a goodwill match between golfing nations. I don’t think who wins is all that important. What is most important is the spirit in which the matches are played. When I gave Tony that putt in 1969, I thought that was what the right spirit and thus the right decision. I’m honored and humbled the PGA of America chose that moment as a source of inspiration for this award. —Jack
